Allergies, whether they be food or pollen, often indicate that the body is already overwhelmed by metabolic waste products or acidity, and cannot tolerate any other foreign matter. The natural health approach needs to be both short and long term. For seasonal allergies that result in watery eyes, runny nose, sinus congestion, and other related symptoms, the herbs of choice are eyebright and nettles, with a 10 day run of echinacea at the same time to boost the immune system. Tincture is generally more effective than capsules. The longer term approach, which might not show its full health effect until next year’s allergy season, would be a good colon cleanse, a transition to a healthy vegetarian diet, drinking enough pure water, getting enough fiber, the alleviation of wheat and sugar, and minimizing dairy intake. The colon is a reflex organ, in that the various areas of the colon relate to different organ areas. We find especially that congestion in the transverse colon will contribute to sinus congestion. There will very rarely be a symptom that is not related to the condition of the entire organism. Allergies, no matter how they manifest, must be looked upon as an indication that the whole body needs some sort of health tune-up.
